Position InformationJob Title: Assistant Athletic DirectorJob Description:The Assistant Athletic Director (Assistant AD) will assist the Director of Athletics in the vision and leadership for SCC's athletic programs by coordinating and managing assigned areas of intercollegiate athletics on both campuses. Specifically, the Assistant Athletic Director will be responsible for successful Athletic Department external communications across all sports and efficient coordination of designated athletic events. The Assistant AD maintains compliance with the rules and regulations of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC), and in accordance with the College's Board Policies and Institutional Guidelines. The Assistant AD also serves as the institutional or department representative in the absence of the Athletic Director.This position is a full-time position (261-day contract) with an annual starting salary of $43,888.00. Benefits include medical, dental & vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid spring and holiday breaks, 15 days vacation, and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement Plan. The Assistant Athletic Director will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy and related state of Iowa Code
  • Coordinate and supervise designated aspects of intercollegiate athletics at SCC and provide leadership, guidance, and support for all coaching staff and programs
  • Serve as main liaison in communication efforts in promoting, marketing, and communicating information for all athletic teams
  • Learn, apply, and ensure departmental compliance with NJCAA and ICCAC regulations; SCC Board Policies and Institutional Guidelines and procedures
  • Demonstrate visible leadership toward building a collaborative, unified, and positive team working environment both within the department and across the institution
  • Develop, implement, communicate, and role-model athletic department philosophy and goals with the SCC administration, staff, faculty, student-athletes, and alumni
  • Work closely with all head coaches to establish communication plans as it relates to marketing, fundraising, and overall program information to aid in the retention and recruitment of student athletes
  • Collaborate with Athletic Director on fundraising efforts; student-athlete-alumni programming, outreach, and awards/recognition; and student-athlete involvement in community and districtwide public relations efforts
  • Serve as an advocate for Blackhawk athletics and represent the college in the most positive and professional manner with prospective, current, and former students, faculty and staff, regulating bodies, other educational institutions, and across the district/communities we serve
  • Maintain a day-to-day knowledge of operations within the department and perform regular duties pertaining to coordination and delivery of internal and external athletic publicity and media relations including social media, website maintenance, collection/maintenance/submission of program statistics for distribution to ICCAC, NJCAA, papers, and sport-specific publications;
  • Serve as the OSA (On-Site Administrator) for home/SCC hosted athletic events as required by the ICCAC
  • Other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
    • Minimum 2 yrs. athletic administration, sports management or other related athletic experience preferred
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and community
    • Self-motivated, energetic, and creative individual with proven planning, organization, and public relations skills
    • Demonstrated success and integrity in managing external communications
    • Demonstrated leadership and organization skills in successfully managing athletic events
    • Strong human relations, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to interact positively and effectively with diverse personalities and populations
    • Working knowledge and active use of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with external communication platforms such as Presto Sports, Sidearm Sports, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram
    • Proven ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
    • Valid driver's licensePreferred Qualifications:Physical Demands:The Assistant Athletic Director must have the ability and mobility to serve a rural area; travel may be required. Individual must be able to work on a basis of "available as work demands" in addition to a fixed schedule and must be available to staff as their program needs demand.
