    • Using a deep understanding of the business and its strategic imperatives, develop and execute the legal strategies and tactics that drive the achievement of the business objectives, either individually or in partnership with other internal and external legal team members.
    • Become familiar with the laws, regulations and regulatory developments associated with the HVACR industry.
    • Have a broad background that enables you to be the subject matter expert and lead legal support on matters of addressing channel/distribution sales, commercial transactions, and other matters of strategic importance, as well as providing general business, manufacturing, and anti-competition advice.
    • Negotiate complex product customer agreements with a focus on new and developing technology and contracting services enabled by digital connectivity.
    • Proactively identify and mitigate risks to the business, with a focus on ensuring Johnson Controls ability to continue to develop and enhance its Global Product offerings through new product development.
    • Provide guidance to businesses to successfully launch compliant products and services.
    • Train and guide clients in complex issues typical for innovative, growth-oriented, multinational manufacturing and technology companies.
    • Counsel the business and manage disputes.
    • Work collaboratively with GP legal team, contract managers and other professionals assuring delivery of cost efficient and effective legal services.
    • Work directly with lead business partners, corporate center of excellence, regional legal teams, and outside counsel to ensure cost-effective support of commercial transactions, litigation, and other matters of strategic importance to the business.
    • Identify and sponsor enterprise-wide initiatives that advance the company's legal function.
    • Domestic and international travel may be required.What we look for:The successful candidate will be a forward-looking lawyer, with a deep understanding of the product businesses they support. You must have demonstrated capability for innovative thinking, working independently and proactively, and challenging the status quo. You must have the credibility to function as a trusted advisor to the business leaders they support. In addition, the candidate must display an unquenchable curiosity and be able to make connections and draw conclusions from incomplete information.For this position, the qualified candidate will have a demonstrated interest in complex commercial negotiations, products (hardware and software), and helping businesses be successful in achieving their business plans.Required:
      • Must have a J.D. from ABA-accredited law school and licensed to practice law within the United States
      • Minimum of 8 years of relevant law firm and in-house experience.
      • Disciplined legal drafter/writer and possess a problem-solving, "can-do" orientation with a demonstrated ability to simplify complex situations.
      • Experience with M&A transactions.
      • Ability to influence without authority and to work within a matrixed legal team.
      • Ability to develop and sustain relationships with management at all levels across geographies and customer management skills.Preferred:
        • Experience with industrial building products and equipment support.
        • Experience with HVACR product support, channel and distribution sales, antitrust, pricing, and contracting complex commercial matters.
        • Familiarity with product labeling and regulatory HVACR requirements (e.g., low GWP refrigerants, construction contracts).
        • Experience selecting/managing outside counsel on an international basis.This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
